Comforting My Mom - Claudia Valentine - It wasnt a good idea to invite my stepmom to live with us. She was divorced after all and had been living alone for a while. It seemed like she was lonely and needed some extra money. She was in her 40s, and I was in college, so I felt like it was my responsibility to take care of her. My dad said he couldnt support her, but I didnt mind. We did have a nice house, so it wasnt too bad for me. But she was definitely taking her share of the rent. She ate all my food in the fridge, she used all my clothes and my room was a mess because she left dirty laundry all over the place. She was sad because she had gotten an eviction notice from her apartment and now she didnt have anywhere to live. She was going to be homeless! How could she get a new apartment? She wasnt making enough money as a housekeeper to afford rent. She started telling me how she thought about going back to college but couldnt afford it. She hadnt gone to college, so she was kind of at a dead end. I felt so bad for her, that I offered to pay for her to go to college.
